Cultural Safety Publications 10th-21st August 2020

By DrMJLock

This fortnight (Monday 10th to Friday 21st) shows 28 publications that referenced cultural safety. The most interesting one for me is ‘Indigenous Cultural Safety Training in Health, Education, and Social Service Work” (#openaccess).

Favourite quote: “The absence of a unified and informed understanding of ICS [Indigenous cultural safety] can be problematic as ICS training risks perpetuating colonial harms if its content is inaccurate or it is delivered ineffectively or insensitively”

Critical comment: This is a scoping review protocol document so does not contain any results or analysis. I will be watching out for the results! I like how the search terms and search strategy is clearly set-out and this makes it easier to replicate for future research. Personally, I am critical of cultural safety training in Australia because it is closed, secret, and self-regulated system. I have no idea what cultural safety trainers and their courses are saying about me, without me! Let me know your experiences of cultural safety training because I can’t afford to pay for workshops.
